National Statistics say that attitudes to entrepreneurship among women (and men) are changing. There is generally a more positive feeling about the opportunities involved in starting your own business. But the data also indicates that women still tend to be more disadvantaged than men by cultural factors which result in them relatively lacking confidence in their entrepreneurial skills, their ability to spot good business opportunities, and confidence in their ability to success in business.

We have asked potential members about what they would like to see in the area as a part of the Women’s Business Network initiative. The key things were: sharing of ideas, finding out what worked for others and what didn’t work so well, having like-minded independent ladies to associate with; networking opportunities, having the opportunity to gain knowledge and practical tips on marketing, social enterprise, sources of funding, book-keeping and sales pitching; Good speakers – informative, range of topics; Virtual Director of members for targeted networking.

Based in all of the above, it has been decided to set up the Women’s Connection network, which addresses the needs of the local women business community and overall business support objective. Our launch event is detailed below, where we will be informing you of the plans for the network and membership details, along with mentoring opportunities.

7 Actions for Your Successful 2013

1.      Set Goals

When did you reevaluate your business and set your goals?  When you launched,  A year ago, maybe more?  Now is the perfect time to update them.  Start with your most important goals and priorities.

Action: Write them down to give you a target.

2.      Plan

Is your business planning overdue?  It’s easy to get so involved in the day-to-day issues that you miss out on opportunities or fail to notice the threats.  That’s why annually you and your staff should get together, offsite of possible, for your annual planning meeting.  I can’t stress enough how crucial this process is, it has helped save many a company.

Action: Draft your plan.  Need an external facilitator or help in producing your Plan contact Laurie.

3. Grow

How can you company grow in 2013?  Squeeze some lemons.  I don’t mean make lemonade.  I mean squeeze more out of the things you already do and have now: your products, services, customers, and distribution.

Action: Identify which lemons you need to squeeze and squeeze them now.

4.      Organise

Need to get organised?  Start with your desk.  A clean desk, inside and out, helps you focus.  Be sure to file financial and legal documents, personnel records, bids, and other important documents.

Action: Start now there is no time like the present.

5.      Manage your Money

What does it mean when you’re profitable but there’s no money in the bank?  You need help managing cash flow!

Action: Produce your cash flow forecast – need a template or help?  Contact Laurie.

6.      Think BIG

Business relatively healthy, but you feel stuck?  Has your turnover hit a plateau, and you want to make more in 2013?  You need a BIG (Big Inspirational Goal) to help you hit your bull’s-eye.

Action: Write down that BIG goal.  Now plan how to hit it.
