Trips, Video and Mentoring Galore

Will you trip up on the dash for video?

The happening in marketing today is undoubtedly video. Seen as the panacea. It’ll improve your rankings across a wide range of digital media. Yes – but…

When the internet was first launched we were told, by so called experts, that traditional marketing was dead. I’m still waiting for the funeral!

What has happened is that there are more and more communication tools in the marketing tool box. Customers are flooded with marketing communications and it is taking more “touch points” or reminders before they will buy (from you). Everything in its place and a place for everything.

I’m in the middle of producing a video to promote my *mentoring services. Whilst recording it I realised the same old rules apply. If it is boring, of no interest to the viewer, not properly structured they will quickly turn off. A video trip – ouch!

AIDCA to the rescue

So what do you need to know to make a successful video or for that matter any marketing communications? First make sure you are talking to an audience interested in your offering. Then follow the format: AIDCA.

A = Attention: lead with a message.

I = Interest: build a bond so they trust you, be more personal and authentic. Establish your credibility. Build the trust. Tell stories and use testimonials

D = Desire: build desire so they want to know more.

C = Capture: get their details – maybe asking them to “like” or respond to an offer.

A = Action: tell them what to do next e.g. “go to” or “click here” to book.

Is it the right environment?

So think about the environment that you are in. Does your audience really want to listen to a video in an open office?   Are they going to open their 100th email of the day? What is going to make you stand out? All part of your integrated marketing strategy.

So to ensure you don’t trip do you?

  • Have an up-to-date Integrated Marketing Strategy and Plan, with a Marketing Budget
  • Know why your client will listen and want to say
  • Understand where, when and how often you need to say it

Mentoring Galore

Running a business or being a manager in a business can be a lonely process. Who do you turn to? Who can you chat to? That’s where mentoring comes in. In New York, the slang for a mentor is a rabbi. The translation of rabbi is teacher. Someone you can trust and confide in. They will give you guidance. Provide a path for your journey.

So what do people say about mentoring?

“A mentor is someone who sees more talent and ability within you, than you see in yourself, and helps bring it out of you.” Bob Proctor

“My job is not to be easy on people. My job is to take these great people we have and to push them and make them even better.” Steve Jobs

“The delicate balance of mentoring someone is not creating them in your own image, but giving them the opportunity to create themselves.” Steven Spielberg

“Small business, you can give them capital, but when they often need as much is mentoring, advice, and help with their business plan.” Karen Mills

“What the tech industry often forgets is that with age comes wisdom. Older workers are usually better at following direction, mentoring, and leading.” Vivek Wadhwa

The mind is not a vessel that needs filling, but wood that needs igniting.” Plutarch

What do my clients say about mentoring?

“It can be painful learning where I’m going wrong but this is truly inspirational for business strategy and problem solving. The mentoring is delivered with humour, aplomb and lots of great advice!” Well he should know he runs a Brad Francis Media Public Relations Agency.

“I love spending three hours each month just looking at my business objectively.” Rachel Brett, @rborVS, Virtual Assistance Services.
