Avoid the 5 Biggest Business Plan Mistakes

Over the last years I’ve helped 1000s of people with their business plans.  The most common mistakes are:

  1. The numbers in their plan are inconsistent with those on their financial forecasts. often they update one set of figures and don’t to check it all the way through
  2. Unrealistic sales figures – often forgetting seasonal variations
  3. Not researching thoroughly so underestimating costs e.g. a courier’s motor insurance
  4. Do not budget enough for marketing activities to generate their sales
  5. Forget some costs and that others are frontend loaded e.g. need to pay the web designer in month 1 or an advance on the rent

Know Anyone Who is Thinking of Starting a Business?

If so please pass this blog on.  There is an increasing trend for professionals to want to make a change to their career – often to start their own business.  They have had enough of working for someone else.  Their job may be at risk.  Perhaps they have a bright idea which they would like to develop.

The Government, with falling unemployment, has reduced business support.  So where can people go for help and advice about how to start up their enterprise?  To help fill the gap, Laurie Bernard, who has over 20 years’ start-up business experience, has teamed up with Civvals, a West End firm of Chartered Accountants.  With Civvals’ support, Laurie is launching his “4 Stage Rocket to Successfully Landing Your Business”.  The 1st Stage is a free taster workshop entitled “Looking to Start a Business?”

Aimed at potential entrepreneurs and timed for them to attend on their way home, this taster is being held at 6pm on 18 July in Civvals’ offices, 50 Seymour Street, Marble Arch, London W1H 7JG.  It is designed to give a flavour of what they need to know to launch their business.

Timed at about 2 hours, it will take them through all the essentials they need to help their business succeed.  It will guide them towards the further stages of a business development programme.

This informative and inspirational training will be facilitated by Laurie aided by Civvals.  Between them, they have:

  • Helped hundreds of business start, grow and prosper
  • Raised substantial business funding
  • Advised on tax efficient strategies
